My new iphone 3G. I kinda like it.

August 11th, 2008

I got a new iPhone3G yesterday after 18 months with the Sony Ericsson W950i. While there were a few niceties about the W950i I wouldn’t say that it was a great phone by any stretch of the imagination.

Does the iPhone live to the hype? I don’t think to be too sucked in by how hip things are. I want them to work for me and not cause me any unnecessary hassle.

The phone is pretty obvious to operate. A few things need instructions (such as inserting the sim card, and operating the silent button.)  It looks good and feels very nice, although the edges of the buttons and holes in the casing are a little sharp.

One needs to update iTune to activate the phone. I’m not a fan of iTunes in the first place, so I wasn’t particularly keen, but as it turns out it’s all pretty hassle-free.

Uploading music to the phone is very slow (for me.) I have a very large collection of music files (many of which my own music and experiments) of over 150GB. A day later, I’m still waiting for iTunes to “Process Album Artwork.” I’m guessing it’s mostly because I’m such a newbie with iTunes.

Anyway. I’ll report on my progress as it goes on.
